Can you really sell a book
if you are an unknown?
In 1990 I was counseling clients on achieving more happiness
in their lives. It soon became clear to me that most people
were repeating the same patterns of behavior over and over
again. In time I developed a "theory" that would
help people identify and break through those patterns. These
ideas became the cornerstone of my first three books.
I then outlined these principles, turned it into a book
proposal and found an agent. This book is called When
Parents Love Too Much.
Understanding the keys to writing a strong proposal
allowed me to sell my first book for a $110,000 advance--
and at that time I was completely unknown.
Since then the book has sold in 12 other countries...
Two years later the floor dropped out of the publishing
industry. My second book, When Is Enough Enough?
had trouble selling to a publisher. I finally found a publisher
through an ad in a little known publication. This experience
taught me how to be my own agent
This book is still selling well and was reprinted
in 9 languages

Later in
1996 I created a workbook called Six Keys To Creating
The Life You Desire. Workbooks are an ideal way to
create your first book even if you are not a strong writer.
With workbooks you do not need to write as much text and
can rely more on charts, assessment tools and graphics.
On this project I once again acted as my own agent and landed
an advance from the top workbook publisher in the country.
