Three Quick Strategies to Getting Traffic to Your Website

1. Promoting Your Online Business using Articles
The ultimate traffic creation method for someone on a shoestring budget is online articles. The idea is to write an information packed article on a topic that directly relates to your product or service. In the article you explain how to do something or provide a list of tips. At the bottom of the article explain how your product or service is connected to the topic of the article with a link to your website.
Next, disseminate your article to various online and offline newsletters and magazines that are related to what you have written. A few ways get your articles in the hands of publishers are by submitting your writings to free online articles sites, you can use software that will send articles to ezine editors directly or you can hire a service.
Hiring a service is very inexpensive, often sending your article to more than 1000 seine publishers will cost less than $20.
If your article is interesting and well written, newsletters and magazines will publish your article. Their readers will visit your site and purchase your product.
2. Use Your Sig File
Your Signature File (or Sig File) is a few lines of text that is automatically added to the bottom of every email you send. This is a simple, effective and free way to tell people about your website.
Your sig file should be as short as possible, create a sense of curiosity and encourage people to visit your site. One technique is to ask a question that can only be answered by visiting your website. Here’s an example:

Use your top keywords and give a compelling, benefit-filled reason why the reader should visit your website.
This simple yet effective marketing technique is very easy to set up. Every email program is different so check out your program’s Help Section for exactly how to set it up for your email.
NOTE: One advanced technique is to add a graphic to your sig-file. This can be anything from a little smiley face to a full-blow banner-ad like graphic. Doing this will cause your sig file to stand out and has been proven to increase the traffic from sig files.
3. Discussion Boards & Newsgroups
Discussion Boards & Newsgroup participation can produce a stead flow of highly-targeted, no-cost web traffic.
If you are on a tight budget, but have some spare time this is a good way to essentially trade your time for money. All you do is find the online groups that best match the topic of your site. Then you make intelligent, useful contributions to the group. It can be anything from answering other people’s questions on topics you are an expert on to providing your opinion on the future of your industry.
There are thousands of Newsgroups on virtually any topic imaginable. To find the group that best matches the topic of your website just do a search online or visit GoogleGroups at http://www.google.com/groups
Now, the way to get traffic from these groups is with your Sig File. Many discussion boards have an automatic sig file option similar to the one described above. If you find a discussion board that does provide you with an automatic sig file, just add yours in by hand.
Word of warning: Do not just post a link to your site or an advertisement for your company in the Newsgroups and Discussion Boards. That will get you banned and possibly spammed by other disgruntled group members. The point is to provide an intelligent contribution to the group’s conversation. If you have something useful to add, by all means post your comments and add your sig file at the bottom.
NOTE: You may want to focus your efforts on the most popular groups related to your site. Fortunately, Google has added an "activity" bar which lets you know just how much traffic each newsgroup gets. That's enough to keep you busy for a while!
