Dear
Subscriber,
This morning I received an email with a link to
Steve Job's (Apple Computer's CEO) graduation speech at Stanford.
Being a fan of Apple Computer I clicked through....
The headline said, Do What You
Love: Time is Too Short to do Anything Else (see
full transcript below). |
 |
Jobs goes on to say... "For the past 33 years I have looked
in the mirror every morning and asked myself: 'If
today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am
about to do today?' And whenever the answer
has been 'No' for too many days in a row, I know I need to change
something". A simple, yet profound idea...
In my experience change is an easy thing to
ponder, but a difficult thing to do. I know this first hand,
I have "pondered" certain changes in my life for way too
long. I knew the weather in Chicago was wearing me down, yet I lived
there for decades. I knew certain people in my life were negative
thinkers, yet I lived with the complaining for years and as a result
I felt like a victim of circumstances. Can you relate?
In the last 5 years I started spending more and more time with optimistic
and big vision people. I confronted myself with the question, "What
are you tolerating and are you willing to keep recreating your life
that way?" As that thought entered more fully into the conversation,
it became obvious that something had to change.
Two years ago, as many of you know, I took the leap and moved from
Chicago to Scottsdale as well as changing some other aspects of
my life. Not everyone was happy about this and it wasn't the easiest
thing to do, but it was the best thing for me in many, many ways.
Increased energy, new friends, golf, tennis, swimming, new business
relationships...
Anyway, Steve Jobs encouraged me to spend the day
doing one of the things I love to do --recording in my studio. So
I recorded a story for you. It's about me and Paul McCartney...
Click
here to listen. I hope you enjoy it
I hope you enjoy this issue,
To your success!
Mitch

Quote For The Day...
“Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions.
Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel
that you, too, can become great.” - Mark Twain

The Book Yourself Solid Traffic Generating, Article Writing
Strategy to Get You the Attention You Deserve
by Michael Port
In the Book Yourself Solid program there are seven core self-promotion
strategies that we draw from: Referral Strategy, Networking Strategy,
Direct Outreach Strategy, Keep-In-Touch Strategy, Web Strategy,
Speaking Strategy, and the Writing Strategy. The Book Yourself Solid
Writing Strategy is the one I'd like to draw your attention to.
If you’are not incorporating article writing into your marketing
you’are missing out on one of the best, most productive, traffic-generating
promotional strategies available to you. When I first launched my
www.BookYourselfSolid.com
website, as you might imagine, my google rank for that site was
0 out of 10. The only strategy I used to generate traffic to the
site was to place articles in online article directories. Within
only three months my google rank jumped from zilch to a significant
and legitimate traffic generating 6 out of 10. Not bad, huh?
But don’'t take my word for it. With this 4-part Strategy
you can begin to implement article writing into your own marketing
strategy and see the amazing results for yourself.
Part A: Sizzling Hot Topics
Part B: Titles That Turn People On or Off
Part C: The 5 Components of an Effective Article
Part D: Getting Published Online and Off
PART A: Sizzling Hot Topics
There are 5 questions to ask yourself before picking a topic for
your article:
- How do you want to be known by a reader of your article? How
do you want to position yourself?
- What is personal for you? Personal subjects can convey passion,
and can draw like minded people your way. Choose a subject which
really jazzes you, and expand your ideas into a list of pointers
for a tips or "how to" article.
- What is your purpose for writing the article? If you want to
promote your business, pick a subject that is promoting the services
you can provide.
- What are your life experiences? Quite often, the topic for
your first article is hidden in past travels, education, the birth
of a child, a former relationship, or a favorite interest. Get
personal, and your readers will fall in love with your written
word.
- And lastly, and possibly most important, what is of greatest
significance to your target audience?
PART B: 6 Types of Titles That Turn People On or Off
- Suspense - "The Secret Life of Stay-At-Home-Moms”
- Tell A Story - “The Path of the Everyday
Hero”
- Address a Pain or a Fear - "The Top
Ten Fears Every Leader Has And How to Overcome Them"
- Grab the Reader's Attention - "CAUGHT!
The 6 Deadliest Marketing Mistakes”
- Emotional Connection - "What My Son's
Tragedy Taught Me About Living Life To The Fullest”
- Solutions To Problems - "Book Yourself
Solid, 7 Keys To Getting More Clients Than You Can Handle Even
If You Hate Marketing And Selling”
PART C: The 5 Components of an Effective Article
- The Title – see above
- The Promise – you've got to make a promise
to your reader that you will fulfill in the article.
- The Story - If your promise is "3 Steps
To Getting Your Husband Hungry For Love" you’'re going
to have to show the reader the 3 steps to getting their husband
hungry for love.
- The call to action – close with a strong
call to action. What do you want your reader to do for themselves
based on the information you just gave them? In others word’s,
make sure they not only consume the information but take an action
so that they can implement it.
- The author's info – your bio will always
go at the very end. Write a good two or three line bio that also
has a strong call to action. Do you want your reader to call you?
To visit your web site? What do you want them to do?
PART D: Getting Published Online and Off
Getting published online is as easy as writing the article and
submitting it to the numerous article and ezine submissions sites
on the web. When submitting your articles online, the majority of
the time, you will be asked to format your articles so that they
are no more than 60 characters per line. You will also be asked
to provide your author bi-line (make sure to hotlink your website).
Getting published offline requires that someone accept your article
but other than that it’'s not too dissimilar from getting
published online. You'll need to find out the submission requirements
of the publication you are interested in. And submit your article,
according to their requirements, along with a query letter. For
more on publishing offline pick up a copy of the Writer's Digest
Handbook of Magazine Article Writing.
